Now I am looking at the Hero aspect of Myth around the world. The hero you think of is generally big strong and capable of super human feats. However,t many times they are the stories of people on a mission of self discovery. People who make a mother load of mistakes and unfortunately it is their colleagues that suffer the most from these and in turn they are forced to deal with great loss and suffering. heroes are not always one sided goodie goodies, take Arjuna the Hindu prince who was an amazing soldier and archer yet despised the killing he did sometimes to his own family. or Odysseus who was not super human at all, but in fact cunning.Whatever the case they had a journey they had to travel before they could learn the lessons we take from them now so many years later.
Have you been reading "The Hero's Journey" by Joseph Campbell?
ReplyDeleteYes! I have that at home right now im reading the power of myth and a few others. Good good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI still have a copy of "Men and the Water of Life" by Michael Meade, and some of Robert Bly's poetry. All my other mythic/men's movement stuff didn't survive various pre-moving book purges.
